Where to Stay for Tour de France 2027

Stage three of the Tour de France 2027 starts in Welshpool on Sunday 4 July 2027 and heads south through Powys, by way of the Newtown area, Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells and Brecon, to Cardiff. Rooms in the start town and along the route will be in high demand for the nights of 3 and 4 July, so book early. This guide shows where to look, from coaching inns and country hotels to farm B&Bs, cottages and campsites. The places to stay listed below this guide are all in Powys.

Where to stay in Welshpool and Montgomery

Staying in Welshpool puts you within walking distance of the start. The Royal Oak Hotel is a historic coaching inn in the town centre, a short walk from Powis Castle and the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, and Westwood Park Hotel is a traditional pub with rooms. Around the town there are farm cottages, holiday parks and B&Bs. Montgomery, about eight miles south, is a small Georgian town with the Dragon Hotel, a 17th-century coaching inn, and Hurdley House, a Georgian townhouse sleeping up to eight. The Nags Head Inn at Garthmyl, between Welshpool and Newtown, also has rooms.

Where to stay near Newtown

Newtown and the Severn valley are within half an hour of Welshpool, with country hotels, lodges and self-catering. Bettws Hall near Bettws Cedewain has rooms, and Gregynog, north of Newtown, has a courtyard B&B in the grounds of the historic hall. There are holiday parks and lodges in the valley towards Caersws and Llanidloes, many with space for bikes.

Where to stay in Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells

If you'd rather watch further down the route, the spa town of Llandrindod Wells and the market town of Builth Wells have hotels, inns and B&Bs. The Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells has a spa and two restaurants, and The Bell Country Inn just outside town has rooms and a restaurant. Around Builth Wells, look for farm stays, riverside pods and holiday cottages. Both towns are on the Heart of Wales Line.

Where to stay in Brecon

For the southern part of the Mid Wales section, Brecon has The Castle of Brecon Hotel above the town, and the Usk and Railway Inn at Sennybridge has rooms. There are cottages, farm stays and bunkhouses across Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), useful for groups and cycling clubs.

Camping and glamping for the Tour de France

Campsites and glamping sites can be the easiest option for a big group or a family on race weekend. Look at holiday parks in the Severn valley, the campsite at Llangorse Multi Activity Centre near Brecon, and glamping sites across Powys. Some sites may open extra pitches for race weekend, so check directly.

When should I book?

Now. Accommodation along Tour de France routes typically sells out months in advance, and minimum stays are common for major events. If you can't find anything in Welshpool, widen your search: most of Powys is within an hour's drive of the start, and there are trains to Welshpool from Shrewsbury and Birmingham on the morning of the race.

Tips for booking

Check the minimum stay and cancellation terms before you book.
Ask about secure bike storage if you're bringing bikes.
Think about road closures on 4 July: stay somewhere you can walk from, or near a railway station.
