Bonfire Night in Mid Wales

Bonfire Night in Mid Wales is a community affair. Most displays are run by Rotary clubs, town councils and volunteers, held on a playing field or by the sea, with a burger van and a crowd that knows each other. Across Powys, Ceredigion and Southern Eryri (Southern Snowdonia), displays usually fall on 5 November or the nearest weekend.

Firework displays in 2026

Llanidloes, Powys. The Rotary Club of Llanidloes holds its annual bonfire and fireworks on Thursday 5 November 2026 at Kennel Fields. The bonfire is lit at 6:30pm and fireworks start at 7pm. Entry is free, and there's hot food and drink on the field. Please don't bring your own sparklers or fireworks. Details are on the Llanidloes bonfire listing.

Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. Ardal Aberystwyth Rotary Club has run a firework display in the town in recent years, with the sea as the backdrop. The 2026 date hadn't been announced when we wrote this page, so check our events listings nearer the time.

Newtown, Powys. Newtown held a firework display in 2025, and we'll add 2026 details once they're confirmed.

Southern Eryri. Seaside towns along the coast, including Barmouth and Aberdyfi, have held displays in past years. No 2026 dates had been published at the time of writing, so check local listings.

Tips for bonfire night

Wrap up warm. Early November evenings in the hills are cold and often damp, and most displays are in open fields. Bring a torch for the walk back, wellies if the field has been wet, and cash for the food stalls. Keep dogs at home or in the cottage with the radio on, as the bangs travel a long way in the valleys.

Is Mid Wales good for a bonfire weekend break?

Yes, if you like your fireworks small-scale and your evenings quiet. Bonfire weekend falls just after October half term, so there's more choice of places to stay and the attractions are quieter. Early November also brings some of the darkest skies of the year, and on a clear night after the fireworks you can see the Milky Way from the Elan Valley and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
