Experiences in Mid Wales

Beyond the usual attractions, Mid Wales has a growing number of experiences that get you closer to the landscape, the food and the people who live here.

Foraging walks along the Ceredigion coast teach you to identify sea beet, samphire, wild garlic and other edible plants that grow on cliff paths and hedgerows. Bushcraft sessions deeper in the Cambrian Mountains cover fire-making, shelter-building and the basics of living outdoors.

Several farms across Powys open their doors for lambing season visits, cheese-making workshops and wool-spinning demonstrations. These are working farms, not theme parks, and the conversations with farmers are as much a part of the experience as the activity itself.

Photography workshops run across Mid Wales, from landscape sessions on the dark sky reserves to wildlife photography hides where you can spend a morning watching red kites, buzzards and the occasional peregrine.

Pottery workshops, printmaking studios and weaving courses are available in several towns, especially around Machynlleth and the Dyfi valley where the creative community is strong.

Most experiences need advance booking and run in small groups. Check individual listings for availability.
