Hafan Yr Afon is delighted to welcome Eternal Triangle, one of the UK's most celebrated contemporary improvising ensembles, for an unforgettable evening of adventurous music.

Bringing together three extraordinary musicians with decades of international experience, Eternal Triangle creates music that is both deeply rooted and constantly evolving. Drawing inspiration from African and South American rhythmic traditions, contemporary jazz, free improvisation and European classical forms, every performance is unique.

At the heart of the trio is legendary saxophonist Trevor Watts, one of the founding figures of British free improvisation. Since emerging with the Spontaneous Music Ensemble in the 1960s, Watts has remained one of Europe's most influential creative musicians, collaborating with artists including Archie Shepp, Don Cherry, Stan Tracey, Steve Swallow, Jayne Cortez and Barry Guy, while leading groundbreaking projects such as Amalgam, Moiré Music and the Moiré Music Drum Orchestra. More than sixty years into his remarkable career, he continues to perform with the same energy, curiosity and imagination that established his reputation.

Joining Watts is the remarkable pianist and keyboard player Veryan Weston, internationally acclaimed for his astonishing originality and fearless creativity. Their musical partnership stretches back over four decades, producing some of the most highly regarded improvised music performances and recordings in Europe.

Completing the trio is master percussionist Jamie Harris, whose vibrant rhythmic language and long-standing collaboration with Watts provides the heartbeat of Eternal Triangle. His playing brings together groove, colour and spontaneity, creating music that is at once powerful, lyrical and completely unpredictable.

The trio itself grew from two long-established musical partnerships: Watts and Weston exploring open improvisation together since the early 1980s, and Watts and Harris developing a unique rhythmic dialogue through years of touring and recording. In 2021 these relationships merged to form Eternal Triangle, a group whose compositions continue to evolve with every performance.

Every concert is different. Themes emerge, develop and transform as the musicians respond to one another in real time, taking audiences on a musical journey that is immersive, expressive and full of surprise.
