About

''Barnes plays music that was radical 50 years ago but he infuses it with so much passion and energy you could believe it was minted on the spot, which is always part of the story with jazz."

Hey Everyone,

This is Claudia speaking! As curator of our series, I am truly excited about our upcoming October concert of the & !
It's not every day that we can present our audiences here in Newtown with such a powerful line-up headed by two remarkable that after more than 33 years of prolific collaboration and touring have kept the spark and enthusiasm for their music so convincingly alive!

In the days of running our much loved 'Hermon Chapel Arts Centre' in Oswestry, Baz and I hosted Alan at several occasions in combination with a variety of players, each time a wonderful fireworks of dexterity on various woodwind instruments laced with a warm and witty approach to his audiences. Our personal experiences with Alan leading our Community Jazz Orchestra in the context of a jazz workshop also gave us a first hand taster of his exceptional skills and empathetic nature as educator.

In short: We can't wait for Alan to bring his quintet to Hafan and finally also meet his counterpart Bruce and fellow musicians! We vouch for the quality of this performance with our personal experience and encourage all of you, seasoned Jazz Aficionados and total novices to the genre to join us for an evening of by an unsurpassed maestro of Bebop!

As there is so much to know about Alan, Bruce and their quintet, why not visit Alan's website?
