Waterfalls in Mid Wales | Devils Bridge, Pistyll Rhaeadr and Dolgoch

Waterfalls Worth the Walk

Mid Wales has some of the most impressive waterfalls in Britain, from narrow gorges where water thunders through rock to gentle cascades in oak woodland. Most are reached by footpaths that are part of the experience.

Devils Bridge Falls

Devils Bridge is where the River Mynach plunges through a deep wooded gorge spanned by three bridges built on top of each other. The oldest dates to the 12th century. The walks here follow steep paths with viewing platforms above the falls. You can arrive by the Vale of Rheidol steam railway from Aberystwyth.

Pistyll Rhaeadr

At 240 feet, Pistyll Rhaeadr near Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant is the tallest single-drop waterfall in England and Wales. The water falls over a cliff face into a natural rock bridge before dropping again. There is a cafe and car park, and the walk to the base of the falls is short and manageable for most abilities.

Dolgoch Falls

Near Tywyn in southern Southern Snowdonia, Dolgoch Falls are reached by a woodland trail. There are three main falls, the highest around 60 feet. The Talyllyn Railway stops nearby, so you can combine the visit with a heritage steam train ride.

Brecon Beacons Waterfall Country

Waterfall Country in the southern Brecon Beacons has a cluster of falls along the Rivers Mellte, Hepste and Nedd. The most famous, Sgwd yr Eira, lets you walk behind the curtain of water. Allow a full day for the Four Waterfalls Walk.
