The National White Water Centre is located in Bala in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. The centre is the UK’s original white water rafting venue with over 30 years’ experience. Set in stunning Welsh hills, the dam controlled River Tryweryn has high flows ideal for exhilarating white water rafting and canyoning adventures on natural rapids throughout the year.


Ultimate Rafting: Experience the UK’s Ultimate White Water Rafting. Paddle, surf, play and spin your way down the most stacked section of grade 3 / 4 white water rafting available in the UK.  


Rapid Session: Fantastic shorter session riding our world class rapids. An hour-long blast riding straight through the same thrilling rapids as our Ultimate Rafting.   


Rafting Safari:  Our great adventure exploring the beautiful lower river Immerse yourself in our natural river environment; 6km full of fun rapids with a chance to swim and play along the way.  


Orca Extreme:  The session for the seriously adventurous. Under our expert instruction you will learn to take on the rapids yourself in a 2 person raft. Only for those with previous white water paddling or rafting experience; this is an extreme session.  


Canyoning Adventure:  Climb, swim and slide through a pristine Welsh river . An offsite adventure where you will traverse, jump, scramble, slide and swim to descend the drops and pools of a steep mountain river.  


If you don't fancy the adventure of the river, don't worry: there is a riverside walk, café and picnic areas which give you the opportunity to take in the splendour of the surrounding in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, and the breath-taking scenery of the area offers a magnificent retreat, not only for the water sports enthusiast, but for everyone.

Ultimate Rafting: £360 per raft / £82 per person (Maximum 6 in a raft) Approx. duration: 2 hours

The Rapid Session: £260 per raft / £52 per person (Maximum 6 in a raft) Approx. duration: 1 hour

Canyoning Adventure: £70 per person Activity duration: up to 2 hours (allow up to 4 hours to include travel time to and from the canyon)

Orca Extreme: £150 per person Approx duration: 4.5 hours

Rafting Safari: £310 per raft (Maximum 5 in a raft) Duration: 1.5 hours

Road Directions

From Llangollen follow the A5 to Corwen, 1 ½ miles through Corwen take the left turning to Bala (A494). At Bala turn right towards Trawsfynydd (A4212). Drive 3 miles to the village of Frongoch, just 1 mile past Frongoch we are signposted on the left.

From Bangor head for Betws Y Coed on the A5, bear right on the junction for the A470 (north), pass Pentrefoelas and Glasfryn. 3 miles later turn right onto B4501 signposted Bala. After around 7 miles on this road, turn right at T-junction onto A4212 towards Trawsfynydd. Around 1 mile up this road we are signposted on the left.

From Aberystwyth through Machynlleth on the A478 towards Corris. Descend to “Cross Foxes Inn” and at the T-junction turn left onto A470 follow the road towards Dolgellau and turn right onto the A494 signposted Bala. Bear left at village of Llanuwchllyn and follow the lake round to Bala. At Bala follow Trawsfynydd signs A4212. Drive 3 miles to the village of Frongoch, just 1 mile past Frongoch we are signposted on the left.

The nearest railway station is Wrexham, which is 39 miles away.
