Romantic Breaks in Mid Wales

Mid Wales gives couples something that luxury resorts cannot: genuine quiet. No entertainment programme, no other guests, no background music. Just the two of you in a comfortable place with nothing to do except whatever you feel like.

Where to Stay

For proper privacy, a self-catering cottage for two with a hot tub under the stars is hard to beat. There are stone cottages in the Brecon Beacons with mountain views, converted barns in the Cambrian Mountains and coastal boltholes near Aberystwyth. Some come with log burners, four-poster beds and their own walled gardens.

B&Bs suit couples who want someone else to cook breakfast and recommend the best local restaurants. Several country hotels across Mid Wales have rooms designed with couples in mind.

Things to Do Together

Walk a section of the Ceredigion Coast Path and stop for lunch overlooking the sea. Drive the Elan Valley reservoirs and park up somewhere quiet. Visit a vineyard or brewery. Browse bookshops in a market town. Or just stay in your cottage, cook something simple and watch the light change over the hills.

Where to Eat

Mid Wales has restaurants and pubs where the food is locally sourced and the setting is worth the drive. Crickhowell has several notable restaurants. Aberaeron, Machynlleth and Brecon all have strong food scenes.
