About
This autumn we’re hosting one of our biggest ever events – a Steam Festival packed with history, colour and power!
Star of the show:
The long-awaited return of No. 9 “Prince of Wales”, back in traffic for the first time since 2020. Fresh from overhaul, it will be unveiled in authentic BR Corporate Blue with double arrow branding – a livery unique in British railway history and never before seen in preservation.
Joining No. 9 in steam will be:
No. 7 “Owain Glyndwr” – in fresh BR lined green, with original nameplates
No. 8 “Llywelyn” – in BR black with lion-holding-wheel crest
NGG13 Garratt No. 60 “Drakensberg” – bringing extra power to the mix
For the first time since 1982, all three Rheidol Tanks will appear together in their BR liveries – a real blast from the line’s British Rail days.
Intensive Steam Timetable:
Five departures on Saturday and Sunday, with unlimited Day Rover tickets so you can ride behind multiple engines across the weekend.
Hands-on Experience:
Take the regulator yourself with special driver experience turns at Aberystwyth.
More than just trains:
• Pete Waterman’s record-breaking 208ft model railway (25 Oct – 2 Nov, separate admission)
• Model railway exhibition
• Miniature road steam engines around the station
Don’t miss this once-in-a-generation celebration of the Vale of Rheidol’s unique BR heritage in Railway200 year!
