Easter 2026 in Mid Wales | Family Fun and Spring Activities

Easter in Mid Wales falls from 3 to 6 April 2026, and it is one of the best weekends of the year to visit with children. The lambs are in the fields, the days are stretching, and the countryside has that particular spring energy that makes you want to get outside and stay there.

Family days out at Easter

Mid Wales has the kind of space that families actually need at Easter. You are not queuing for attractions or fighting for parking. The beaches along the Ceredigion coast, the trails around Clywedog and Elan Valley, and the country parks at Craig-y-Nos and Nant yr Arian give children room to run without anybody looking stressed about it.

Several farms across Powys, Ceredigion and Southern Snowdonia open their doors during the Easter period. Lambing visits let children see newborn lambs up close, and most farms are happy for families to spend time walking around the yard and asking questions. It is unscripted, unhurried and usually free or low cost.

Easter events

Easter egg hunts and trails pop up across the region in the week before Easter. National Trust properties, country parks and independent farms run their own events. Powis Castle near Welshpool usually hosts an Easter trail through the gardens, and the Elan Valley Visitor Centre often puts on family activities over the bank holiday.

Local churches across Powys, Ceredigion and Southern Snowdonia hold Easter services in Welsh and English, and many communities organise their own activities. Check local noticeboards or village Facebook groups for what is happening near where you are staying.

Getting outside

April weather in Mid Wales is changeable but often kind. Bring layers, a waterproof and decent shoes, and you can walk most days. The woodland trails around Devil's Bridge, the towpath along the Montgomeryshire Canal, and the shoreline at Borth and Ynyslas are all manageable with younger children.

For older children and teenagers, mountain biking trails at Nant yr Arian and Coed y Brenin are within reach, and the National Whitewater Centre at Bala offers rafting sessions that suit families with children aged eight and over.

Where to stay

Self-catering cottages and farmhouse B&Bs across Mid Wales have good availability at Easter, though popular properties fill early once school holiday dates are confirmed. Book ahead if you want a specific place, or be flexible on location and you will usually find something within a few days.

Many family-friendly places have gardens, space for games, and are relaxed about muddy boots and wet dogs. Ask about cots, highchairs and stairgates when booking.
