About

Bala Lake Railway is one of the Great Little Trains of Wales. The 9 mile return journey through the striking scenery of the Snowdonia National Park and a must see attraction on the shoreline of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid).

Llanuwchllyn Station

Llanuwchllyn ('the village above the lake') is the headquarters of the historic Railway and regular trains link the village with the busy market town of Bala.

The round trip takes about I hour and can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing access to the lake shore at various intermediate points for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside; the shaded woodland nooks at Bryn Hynod are ideal for picnics, and there is a large picnic site by the beach at Llangower.

Visitors will see extensive views of Llyn Tegid, its surrounding countryside as well as the Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy mountains. Keep a look out for the herons & buzzards that nest near the line – a perfect example of nature and machines living side by side. All trains start and finish there day at Llanuwchllyn station, where you will find a cafe, locomotive sheds and heritage centre.

Please note, there are no toilets at Bala Penybont station. Public toilets are available at Llanuwchllyn and Llangower.
