The Volcano Trail (7 miles, 11 kilometres)
This trail starts from the car park at Pont Cae’n y Coed and visits some of the most remote and highest areas of the Forest Park it starts from the Cae'n y Coed car park.
Highlights: Discover Coed y Brenin's fascinating geological history. See spectacular views of the surrounding Meirionydd mountains.
Follow a combination of forest tracks, minor roads and paths on this circular long distance walk visiting a number of key features in the forest, including the copper bog. Take in the five information panels on route to help you explore Coed y Brenin’s violent volcanic history.
The route is often on an unmade uneven surface, covering some of the roughest terrain in the forest. If you want to experience a real adventure ensure you go well prepared for a long day in the woods.

Coed Y Brenin Visitor Centre: The Visitor Centre has the following facilities: Toilets (including accessible toilets), Showers (in male, female and accessible rooms), Café (see above), Shop, Information desk, Picnic sites and BBQ, There are a number of picnic tables around the main car parks within Coed y Brenin Forest Park plus many more on the waymarked walking trails. Some of the picnic tables have metal frames for holding disposable barbeques. There are also stone BBQ plinths in Glasdir and Ty'n y Groes picnic sites. Please ensure all fires are extinguished and tidied up after use.
