You are here: Plan & Inspire > Who's Visiting
Mid Wales does not attract one type of visitor. It attracts people who want something specific: quiet, space, real countryside, proper walks, dogs welcome, no crowds. The common thread is not age or background. It is a preference for places that have not been polished into a brand.
It is one of the best walking regions in Britain. The Brecon Beacons have high-level ridge walks, waterfall circuits and open moorland routes. The Ceredigion coast has cliff paths with views across Cardigan Bay. The Cambrian Mountains offer long, remote days where you might not see another person. Offa's Dyke Path runs through Knighton, and Glyndwr's Way starts in the same town.
Most accommodation is within walking distance of good routes. Ask your host and they will usually have a favourite walk they can describe from memory.
Yes, particularly families who like outdoor space. Children can run, build dams in streams, collect shells on Ceredigion beaches and see red kites overhead at the feeding station near Rhayader. There are castles at Harlech, Cardigan and Powis. The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth is good for older children. Borth has a beach that seems to go on for ever.
The quieter corners of Mid Wales are made for couples who want to be left alone in a good way. A cottage with a wood burner near Llanwrtyd Wells, a boutique B&B in Aberaeron, a converted barn in the hills above Crickhowell. The pubs are good, the restaurants are getting better every year, and nobody will bother you.
Almost everywhere. Mid Wales is genuinely dog-friendly, not just in the "we tolerate dogs" sense. Most cottages, many B&Bs and several hotels welcome dogs. Pubs will let your dog sit by the fire. Beaches on the Ceredigion coast allow dogs year-round outside the main swimming areas. The walking is endless and the mud is free.
Whatever brings you to Mid Wales, you will find that the region adapts to your pace rather than the other way around. For help planning your trip, see our trip planner section. And when you are ready to book, browse accommodation across the region to find somewhere that suits the way you travel.
