Finding somewhere to stay that works for you should not be a source of stress. Across Mid Wales, a growing number of hotels, cottages, B&Bs and self catering properties have made real improvements to accessibility, not just a ramp at the door, but thought-through design that makes a stay comfortable.

Some properties listed here have been assessed against national accessibility standards. Others have made their own adaptations based on what guests have told them they need. Wet rooms, grab rails, level access, wider doorways, ground floor bedrooms: the details vary by property, so it is always worth checking directly with the owner before booking.

Mid Wales is not flat, and some of the most enjoyable places to stay are on hillsides or along valleys. But there are accessible walking routes through forests at Bwlch Nant yr Arian near Aberystwyth, level paths along the Montgomery Canal, and boardwalk trails at nature reserves. The Elan Valley visitor centre has accessible facilities and a route around the reservoir dam.

Towns like Llandrindod Wells, Brecon and Aberystwyth have level town centres with shops and cafes on the flat. Welshpool has the canal and Powis Castle nearby with accessible routes through the gardens.
