You are here: Experience and Enjoy > Mid Wales | Great Places to Visit for Couples
Mid Wales beckons couples to explore its romantic heart. While February 14th may be celebrated worldwide as Valentine's Day, Wales cherishes its own unique day of love – St Dwynwen’s Day – every January 25th.
This special day, dedicated to the Welsh patron saint of lovers, is deeply rooted in the rich tapestry of Welsh history and legend. St Dwynwen's tale, set against the backdrop of the majestic Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, adds a magical touch to this region's romantic allure.
A Year-Round Haven - Your Journey Awaits
Mid Wales isn't just for celebrating St Dwynwen's Day or Valentine’s Day; it’s a year-round sanctuary for couples seeking romance. Whether you're reigniting the flames of love or nurturing a budding relationship, the region's scenery and tranquil ambiance set the perfect stage.
Uncover Mid Wales' secrets together, exploring ancient castles that whisper tales of love and valor. Indulge in the local culinary delights, where each dish is a testament to the region's rich heritage. Wander through market towns hand in hand, discovering artisan crafts and and make your own unique memories. As you delve into the heart of Mid Wales, you'll find that every corner of this land has a love story to tell.
The Elan Valley is one of those places that feels like it belongs to you when you visit. The chain of dams and reservoirs west of Rhayader sits in a steep valley with no through traffic and very few people. Walking the estate roads and paths together, with nothing but the sound of water and skylarks overhead, is as good a couples' day out as you will find anywhere.
Country pubs across Mid Wales serve real ales and honest food. The towns of Aberaeron, Llanidloes and Machynlleth all have independent restaurants, cafes and delis worth seeking out. An evening meal overlooking the harbour at Aberaeron or in a coaching inn in Brecon makes for a good end to the day.
Dark sky stargazing from a cottage doorstep, a long walk on an empty beach, a steam train through a wooded valley: the things that make Mid Wales good for couples are the same things that make it good full stop. There is just less queuing and more space to enjoy them.
