Quabbs Cabin is a secluded, hand-built retreat for two, tucked away on a working sheep farm near Knighton in the beautiful Mid Wales countryside. Created by owners Paul and Steph MacDonald — a skilled builder and craftsman and a former geography teacher — the cabin grew from their shared love of nature, conservation, sustainability and thoughtful farm diversification.

Built using locally sourced and reclaimed materials wherever possible, Quabbs Cabin combines the warmth, character and quirkiness of a traditional log cabin with the comfort and little luxuries of a very special escape. Guests can slow down, switch off and enjoy complete peace and privacy, surrounded by meadows, hills and wonderful views towards Offa’s Dyke.

Quabbs Cabin is no ordinary stay. Lovingly hand-built by a skilled craftsman using locally sourced and reclaimed materials, it is a retreat where every detail has been thoughtfully considered. Guests can wake in a handmade bed overlooking the meadow, sink into a deep copper bath, or sit beneath the stars on the private wraparound porch. With a fully equipped kitchen, wood-fired hot tub and the newly added infrared Sauna Shack, complete with a bracing outdoor cold-water rainfall shower, there are plenty of ways to slow down. Surrounded by countryside, with complete peace and privacy, this is a place to switch off, reconnect and properly unwind.

With minimal light pollution and wonderfully dark skies, Quabbs Cabin is an idyllic retreat for stargazers. On clear nights, guests can step outside and experience the Welsh night sky in all its glory, with stars stretching across the surrounding countryside. A thoughtfully curated stargazing kit, including telescopes, red-light torches, star guides and cosy blankets, makes it easy to settle in for an evening beneath the stars. And with the Spaceguard Centre just a short distance away, it’s a particularly special spot for anyone fascinated by the night sky.
