About

The Museum tells the fascinating story of some of the British army’s most famous regiments: The Royal Welch Fusiliers and The Royal Regiment of Wales (formerly the 24th, 41st and 69th Foot, and later the South Wales Borderers, Welch Regiment and Monmouthshire Regiment).

This long history, dating back to the 1680s, is told through many kinds of objects including uniforms, medals, weapons and models. The regiments have seen action in many prominent events, including the British campaign in South Africa (visit us and discover what really happened in the 1879 Zulu War!), and both world wars.

Forty-three of the regiments’ soldiers have received the Victoria Cross, and we commemorate their sacrifice and heroism as well as that of all the men and women associated with our regiments who have contributed so much to our country.

Road Directions

The Museum is located on the Watton (B4601), which is the road that leads out eastwards from Brecon towards Abergavenny. The Barracks (a few hundred yards along the Watton) are on your left, and the Museum is the first building in the Barracks complex. We have a separate public entrance directly off the Watton. There is a public pay and display car park within 150 yards of the Museum.

The town has no train station, however there are local bus services in the area. The nearest train station is either Abergavenny or Llandovery.
