You are here: Experience and Enjoy > What's On > Summer Events 2026
Summer in Mid Wales brings a calendar of festivals, shows, markets and events spread across Powys, Ceredigion and Southern Eryri (Southern Snowdonia). From large-scale events like the Royal Welsh Show to small village fetes and farmer's markets, there is something on most weekends from May through September.
The Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells is the big one. Four days in the third week of July, with livestock, food halls, forestry, evening concerts and over 200,000 visitors. It is the largest agricultural show in Europe and the highlight of the Mid Wales summer.
County and agricultural shows run throughout July across the region. The Ceredigion County Show and the Montgomeryshire Show near Welshpool are among the larger ones, with livestock classes, produce competitions and family entertainment.
Green Man Festival near Crickhowell brings music, comedy, literature and science to the Brecon Beacons for a long weekend in mid-August. Smaller agricultural shows continue through August in towns across Powys and Ceredigion.
Aberystwyth hosts concerts, exhibitions and arts events through the summer, with the Aberystwyth Arts Centre programme running alongside outdoor events in the town.
The Machynlleth Comedy Festival kicks off the season in May, with stand-up comedy across venues in Machynlleth. The Hay Festival of Literature, just over the Powys border at Hay-on-Wye, runs in late May and early June.
Local markets run through the summer months in most market towns. Llandrindod Wells, Newtown, Brecon and Aberystwyth all have regular markets with local produce, crafts and food stalls.
Check our what's on listings for dates and details. Many events are weather-dependent, and smaller shows and fetes may not be listed far in advance. That is part of the appeal. Turn up, pay at the gate, and enjoy whatever is happening.
Summer events in Mid Wales are community occasions. They are where local people meet, where children run in fields, and where visitors get a genuine sense of the place. If you are here in summer, find an event and join in.
