Christmas Gift Shopping in Mid Wales

Christmas gift shopping in Mid Wales means independent shops, craft workshops, farm shops and producers, many run by the people who made what's on the shelves. Across Powys, Ceredigion and Southern Eryri (Southern Snowdonia), the market towns are good places to find presents you won't see anywhere else, and to have a proper lunch while you're at it.

Where are the best places for Christmas shopping in Mid Wales?

Hay-on-Wye, Powys. The book town has more than twenty bookshops, along with antiques, galleries and delis. The Hay Festival Winter Weekend runs from 26 to 29 November 2026.

Machynlleth, Powys. An independent-minded market town with a Wednesday street market, galleries and shops. Ian Snow on the main street sells crafts and homeware from around the world.

Welshpool, Montgomery and Newtown, Powys. Gifts of Wales in Welshpool stocks Welsh-made gifts, siop DAVIES shop in Newtown sells arts and crafts, and the Kerry Vale Vineyard cellar door shop near Montgomery sells its own wine. Montgomery also holds a regular charter market.

Crickhowell, Powys. The CRiC Centre has a gift shop in this small town on the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), with independent shops along the high street.

Corris, Southern Eryri. Corris Craft Centre near Machynlleth is home to a group of independent craft workshops, where you can watch makers at work and buy direct.

Aberystwyth and the Ceredigion coast. Aberystwyth has the widest choice of shops on the coast, and Aberaeron has independent shops around its harbour. The farm shop at Bargoed Farm near Aberaeron sells local food, Welsh crafts and hampers.

Food and drink gifts

Good to know

Many small shops keep shorter hours in winter and some close on Mondays, so check before a special trip. Several sell online if you can't visit.
