Goings on. Happenings. Get togethers. Call them what you will. We have some great event venues in Mid Wales, which make for great events.
We have big events like the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd (near Builth Wells) that attract thousands of visitors every year. It’s the pinnacle Show in the British agricultural calendar, and The Royal Welsh Showground hosts smaller events throughout the year too.
Often, our landscapes are the venue, hosting big outdoor sporting events, like Wales Rally GB. We have small nature events outdoors – check out the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, or RSPB sites in Mid Wales.
Aberystwyth is home to the National Library of Wales, which has many events and exhibitions. Mid Wales has welcomed the National Eisteddfod of Wales, the largest and oldest celebration of Welsh culture. Each year it visits a different area of Wales.
Find live music events here. Pavilion Mid Wales in Llandrindod Wells (formerly The Grand Pavilion) has a long history of community & musical entertainment spanning over 100 years. Find theatres and cinemas, too.
Many of our attractions host shows and festivals and put on special events.
Our market towns have all sorts of events going on. Llanwrtyd Wells hosts the World Bog Snorkelling Championships and you can’t get quirkier than that. Except for Man vs Horse, perhaps (also in Llanwrtyd Wells).
Seasonal Events and Regular Fixtures
The Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells every July is the largest agricultural show in Europe and draws visitors from across Britain. It is four days of livestock, rural crafts, food, music and more tractors than you can count.
Smaller countryside shows run in towns and villages throughout the summer, from Llanfyllin to Aberaeron. These are genuine community events, not tourist recreations, and they are worth catching if your visit coincides.
The Green Man festival near Crickhowell in August brings music, literature and comedy to the Brecon Beacons. Aberystwyth's arts festival and the Machynlleth Comedy Festival both draw strong line-ups for smaller-town events.
Check live music and theatre listings for current programmes at venues across the region.
