Details
Gwyndu Cottage (white black cottage in English), situated in the heart of the picturesque welsh village of Meifod, near the market town of Welshpool in the glorious Mid-Wales countryside.
The cottage was built circa 1700 and is one of the oldest cottages in Meifod, and although renovated to modern standards has retained its cottage charm with cosy rooms, low ceilings, exposed beams and a log burner. We are still trying to trace its history, but we know that during the 19th century the kitchen side of the property was a cobbler’s shop.
Outside there is a south facing cottage garden with an outdoor dining area, along with a covered outdoor area ideal for drying wet clothes and fishing equipment or securely storing 4 bicycles. There are also washing facilities in the garden for hosing off dirty bicycles or walking boots. Behind the rear garden is a small paddock in which my Hebridean Sheep sometimes live (if you would like to use the paddock during your stay please let me know and I will make sure that the sheep are not there).
Gwyndu Cottage sleeps 4 people, one room with a king size bed and the other with 2 singles which can be zipped together to form another king size bed, just let me know when booking if you want the single beds linking together. There is a modern bathroom with a heated towel rail, electric shower and a bath.
The kitchen has a fridge freezer, microwave, fan oven and induction hob.
Although I do like to meet my guests, contactless arrival and departure is allowed, which gives you flexibility on your arrival time once the keys are released upon completion of setting up the cottage for your arrival.
There is ample free on street parking outside the cottage. The nearest train station is in Welshpool (which is about 15 minutes away).
No smoking is allowed inside Gwyndu Cottage.
There are many walks and cycle routes in the area and there is excellent fly fishing on the River Vyrnwy and Banwy in season and some people use the River Vyrnwy for wild swimming during the summer. Meifod also has community tennis courts and day, week or annual tickets can be obtained at a low cost from the post office/village shop. Meifod also has an independent pub just a couple of minutes walk away from the cottage and it serves excellent food. There is also a small childrens play area, church, chapel and the COBRA rugby club. Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda all deliver to Meifod.
