Y Dolydd | Llanfyllin Workhouse - Open Doors 2025

About

This is a fine example of a workhouse built under the New Poor Law of 1834, and is the only one in Wales preserved and open to the public. It is set in the beautiful countryside of the Cain Valley beside the A490 towards Lake Vyrnwy.

Known locally as Y Dolydd, it is a handsome stone building listed Grade II*, under
restoration by a local trust. Four wings radiate from the central Master's House. The Workhouse History Centre tells its story with a film, Ghosts of the Workhouse, featuring the men, women and children who lived and worked here.

Open every day with a visitor trail.

For Open Doors, there will be a special event with a Food Fair featuring the finest food and drink from local producers in Wales and the borders, with a wide range of produce available to sample. Plus - live music, an art exhibition, open studios, slide presentation on the building's restoration, guided tours, workhouse costumes for children.

Free entry and parking; donations towards the restoration gratefully received.

No booking required.
