About
John Bisset & Barry Bazmatronics Edwards
A new series of experimental music evenings where sound knows no boundaries and creativity has no limits. A space for sonic adventurers, risk-takers, and the curious, N-Ex-T brings together improvisers, noise-makers, and unconventional artists to explore new territories in sound. Whether you're into free jazz, ambient textures, electronic explorations, or raw, unfiltered improvisation, this is a night where the unexpected thrives.
This month we are very excited to bring John Bisset on lap steel guitar. In John's own words…
I experience improvisation as a deeply satisfying and meaningful way of relating - to the instrument, the other players, and the audience - through active and responsive listening. As a lap steel player, I have been hugely influenced by the music and disposition of Susan Alcorn and my 2025 solo cd 'o- -o' is dedicated to her.
I have worked with Maggie Nicols, Rhodri Davies, Burkhard Beins, Alex Ward, Butch Morris, and many others. Current collaborators include George Garford, Jem Finer, Milana Sarukhanyan and Iris Colomb. https://www.johnbisset.net/
After his first set, John will be joined by Barry Edwards, also known as Bazmatronics, a guitarist and improviser based in the UK. He is particularly active in the fields of free improvisation and experimental music. A graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Edwards has developed a distinctive style that blends traditional jazz with avant-garde and experimental elements. He frequently incorporates extended guitar techniques into his performances, creating immersive musical experiences that often feel like spontaneous compositions.
He has performed and collaborated with a range of notable figures in the UK improvisational music scene, including Paul Dunmall and Neil Metcalfe. Edwards' alter ego, "Bazmatron," reflects his experimental approach, where he merges electronic elements and unconventional instruments like the wooden flute, as seen in his improvisational sets. This artistic fusion of electronics and acoustics adds layers of depth to his performances .
In addition to his live performances, Edwards is also known for his work as a composer for media, contributing music to projects such as the Netflix series Spy Ops and the Apple TV production of K-Pop Idols . His broad range of influences and versatility make him a unique figure in both the jazz and improvisational music scenes https://www.bazmatronics.com
