Beaches Where Dogs Can Run

Mid Wales has beaches where your dog can be a dog. No tiny designated zones, no disapproving looks, just open sand and space to run. The Cardigan Bay coastline is one of the most dog-friendly stretches of coast in Wales, with many beaches allowing dogs year-round.

Year-Round Dog Beaches

Borth is three miles of sand where dogs are welcome all year. The beach is wide, the waves are good, and at low tide the prehistoric submerged forest gives your dog something interesting to sniff. Tywyn has a similarly long beach with few restrictions. Mwnt near Cardigan is a quiet cove where dogs are welcome throughout the year.

Seasonal Restrictions

Some beaches have dog bans during the summer months, typically May to September. Barmouth restricts dogs from the main beach in summer but allows them at the quieter northern end. New Quay and Aberystwyth have similar seasonal zones. Always check local signage.

Walks from the Beach

The best dog walks combine beach and coastal path. From Borth you can walk north to the Dyfi estuary nature reserve. From Barmouth, the Panorama Walk climbs above the town with views across the Mawddach. The Ceredigion Coast Path between New Quay and Cwmtydu is superb with your dog.
