Exploring a Victorian slate mine with Corris Mine Explorers

Book Tickets Online

About

Corris Mine Explorers in Corris, Mid Wales, takes you deep underground into a forgotten world of Welsh slate mining. Step into a disused Victorian slate mine and follow expert guides through hand-dug tunnels, vast chambers and untouched abandoned workings; virtually unchanged since the last miners left in the 1970s. Along the way you will see old tools, machinery, candles, discarded personal items and even miners' graffiti, all left exactly where they were dropped decades ago. Stories of real people who worked here bring the history of the mine, and the tough lives of the miners, vividly to life.

On each of our visits, numbers are kept small so everyone can see and hear. This is an atmospheric experience for families, curious visitors, history lovers and anyone looking for something a bit different in Mid Wales. Pre-booking is strongly recommended, especially in school holidays and for groups. Check dates, times and full details at www.corrismineexplorers.co.uk.

Corris Mine Explorers shares a site with Corris Caverns, home to the Corris Craft Centre with its 9 independent craft workshops, King Arthur’s Labyrinth underground storytelling adventure filled with dragons, giants, epic battles and the legendary King Arthur and the Welsh Legends Maze where ancient myths, mischievous fairy folk and the voices of long-ago bards whisper through every leafy turn…. There is also a café where you can refuel before or after going underground. With free all day parking, it is an easy day out for all ages, in all weathers.
