New Quay is a picturesque town on the Mid Wales coast is a great place to visit any time of the year. Golden sandy beaches that extend in an arc around the bay and a sheltered harbour make New Quay a delight to visit and enjoy a walk along the front to the end of the Quay and watch the boats sail by. Or just sit back and enjoy one of the cafes overlooking the harbour.

The town has narrow streets rising in terraces - between several of which were 'ropewalks' for twisting rope in New Quay's heyday as a shipbuilding centre.

In the summer months, New Quay becomes a bustling holiday resort with sailing, fishing, water sports and relaxation among the main attractions.

From the harbour, you can see the famous Cardigan Bay dolphins most days in the summer. Other important wildlife of the area includes rare chough, red kite, seabirds and grey seals. There are many unique wild flowers along the coastal path and a great diversity of marine life in the rock pools along the coast.

Until the stone harbour was built in 1835, New Quay consisted of a just a few thatched cottages hugging the coast. After the construction of the harbour, economic migrants arrived to help fuel the modest ship building industry that was starting to emerge and rival the fisheries as the principle economic activity of New Quay. Although the ship building industry declined towards the end of the 19th century, New Quay retained its nautical dimensions and continued to operate navigation schools and sustain the town's identity as a seafaring centre.

The famous Welsh Poet Dylan Thomas lived in New Quay during the end of WWII and the town was used for most of the locations for the filming of The Edge of Love.
