The accommodation offers flexibility for your stay: self-catering, or exclusive hire with hosted meals and hospitality. Our hosted option includes catering, housekeeping while you’re out, and even lighting the wood burner so the Hideaway is warm and welcoming on your return.

Inside, the large, cosy lounge with a wood burner is perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the mountains, lakes, forests, or rivers of Mid Wales. The dining room and lounge feature panoramic views of the rolling hills. The kitchen is fully equipped for group cooking, and with 6 electric showers, everyone can refresh easily.

Road Directions

Hafren Forest Hideaway is located in Staylittle, Powys, in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains, Mid Wales.

From Shrewsbury (about 50 miles / 1h 15min): Take the A458 west towards Welshpool, then follow the A470 north. Turn onto the B4518 towards Staylittle, then follow local signs to the Hideaway.

From Welshpool (about 12 miles / 20–25min): Take the A458 west and follow local signage via Staylittle to Hafren Forest Hideaway.

From Llanidloes (about 15 miles / 25min): Head south on the A470, then turn onto the B4518 through Staylittle, following signs to the Hideaway.

Parking: There is ample private parking at the Hideaway for groups, trailers, and vehicles carrying bikes or outdoor gear.

Public Transport Directions

Hafren Forest Hideaway is in Staylittle, Powys, in the Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales. While the Hideaway is easiest to reach by car, you can also travel using public transport:

Train: The nearest mainline station is Caersws, which has connections to Shrewsbury, Birmingham, and beyond. From Caersws, a taxi (approx. 25–30 minutes) will take you directly to the Hideaway.

Bus: Local bus services run between Caersws, Newtown, and Llanidloes. From these towns, a taxi will bring you to the Hideaway.

Taxi / Ride Services: Pre-booking a taxi is recommended, especially for guests carrying bikes, fishing gear, or luggage.

Tip: Groups with outdoor equipment may find driving or hiring a minibus the most convenient option, but public transport combined with a local taxi is possible for those without a car.
