About
Aberystwyth Cliff Railway is marking an impressive 130 years since it first opened in 1896, with a day of family entertainment on Saturday 19th September 2026. The celebrations will take place from 10:00 until 21:00 at the Cliff Railway and Y Consti, bringing together the railway’s fascinating heritage with plenty of activities for visitors of all ages.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, visitors can see working heritage steam engines, enjoy live music throughout the afternoon and have a go at traditional fete-style games. There will also be face painting for younger visitors, while one of the highlights of the occasion will be the cutting and sharing of a giant 130th anniversary cake.
The railway itself has been carrying passengers to the top of Constitution Hill since 1896 and remains one of Aberystwyth’s most distinctive historic attractions.
Admission to the anniversary event is included with the purchase of a railway ticket.
