About

THE RODD

The Rodd is a rural centre for the arts close to the picturesque Welsh market town of Presteigne. Discover inspiring encounters with the arts, heritage and nature in the beautiful landscape of the Hindwell River Valley on the English Welsh border.

Explore Rodd Court, an atmospheric Jacobean manor house that has been a place for artists and creativity for over a hundred years. Experience world-class contemporary art exhibitions and installations, and wander our gardens and grounds, with walks into the wider landscape and down to the riverside.

Our pop-up cafe serves, tea, coffee and locally made cakes and soup. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome.

You can also stay on-site in Orchard Cottage, in our comfortable one-bedroom holiday cottage in the grounds, which is dog friendly and sleeps up to four people..

For opening times, upcoming exhibitions and workshops, and Orchard Cottage details, please see our website.

GROUPS AND TOURS

Groups are welcome. For pre-booked visits we can offer a guided tour exploring the history of 17th century Rodd Court, with an introduction to the current exhibitions. Tours rates are £12.50 per person (minimum 10), which includes hot drinks, cakes, and access to our gallery, gardens, and woodland. A tour lasts roughly 2 hours. Timings and dates are flexible but must be pre-booked.

HISTORY AND COLLECTION

The Rodd was the last home of leading Australian artist Sir Sidney Nolan CBE RA (1917–1992) and his wife Mary who founded the Sidney Nolan Trust, a registered charity with a vision of enabling access to the arts in the context of landscape.

The Trust looks after the Nolans' former home, his artist’s studio and 180 acres of farmland and woodland, along with the largest collection of  Nolan's artworks outside of Australia, his library and personal archive.
