Recently featured on BBC Autumnwatch and Winterwatch, The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Mid Wales is launching a series of brand new bookable visitor experiences. Join expert tutors and delve into a range of different topics, all with a big focus on celebrating the natural world, including gardening for nature, becoming a nature detective, moth night’s and more.

NATURE DETECTIVES FAMILY DAY

A fun-packed adventure on the wild side for the whole family.

Have you ever wondered what creepy crawlies call your garden home or what furry friends scurry outside your window at night? Finding out who your wildlife neighbours are is a tricky business! Lucky for you, CAT’s expert team are on hand for an exciting day of wildlife exploring.

With loads of great ideas to practice at home and plenty of new skills to learn, you’ll finish the day at CAT a true nature detective!

GARDENING FOR NATURE EXPERIENCE DAY

Calling all nature loving gardeners.

We’re offering a fantastic day of exploring wildlife gardening with CAT’s expert gardens team, packed full of essential knowledge to help wildlife thrive in your garden at home.

Lay the foundations to your wildlife gardening knowledge and explore what you can do in your own garden to help nature flourish on this exciting day out in the CAT gardens.

PRICE: Adult – £60, Child under 16 – £30
This day is brilliant for adults of all ages and older children (14 and up) with a love of gardening and nature.

MOTH NIGHT EXPERIENCE

Moth traps and bat detectors. What more could you want from an evening at CAT?

CAT’s visitor centre and surrounding woodland is home to an amazing number of species of moth and there are several active bat roosts close by. What an excellent recipe for a night of nature! Grab a bat detector and moth ID book and have a great time.

Moth nights start at 8pm and continue until midnight. Your ticket includes a drink (beer, cider, soft drinks). Bring a torch and plenty of warm/waterproof clothing!

SECRET LIFE OF BIRDS EXPERIENCE DAY

Discover the world of birds at CAT on a fascinating and knowledge packed day.

Become more familiar with a number of our favourite bird species and explore ways of helping them thrive in this knowledge-packed day out with CAT’s ecology team. You’ll explore everything from bird language and habitats to how you can support birds and other wildlife to thrive in your own garden.

The Centre for Alternative technology is ideally situated right in the heart of Mid Wales, just two hours by train from Birmingham International Airport and Train Station.

CAT is located three miles north of Machynlleth on the A487, look out for the brown signs.

By Public Transport
Travel Planner - https://www.traveline.cymru/

Bus services run from Machynlleth and other major towns. The T2 runs regular routes from Aberystwyth to Bangor. The T2 also passes the centre as well. It's worth looking online if you're planning to travel by bus and ask the driver about the best place to alight for the centre.

National Cycle Network Route 8 passes via CAT's entrance and the road from Mach to CAT is quiet and safe (see map above).

Trains are frequent and it doesn't take long to get from the Midlands to Machynlleth

Free car parking at Visitor Centre.
EV Car Charging point: Free to Cat Visitors - notify reception on arrival and they will assist you with the charging facilities.
