Take a journey of self-discovery while developing practical skills in a beautiful immersive environment at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT).
The Centre for Alternative Technology offer a wide variety of day and short residential courses covering a range of sustainability issues, including: renewable energy, environmentally friendly building techniques, water and sanitation solutions, introductory classes in ecology, woodland management, organic gardening and wilderness skills, as well as specialist courses for educators and trade professionals.
CAT is a world-renowned eco centre that celebrates and supports greener ways of living. Nestled in the foothills of Snowdonia and bursting with wildlife you can combine exciting practical skills with immersive wellbeing experiences,
CAT’s series of short courses cover everything from nature connection to mindful forestry. Relax and unwind through calm contemplation in the natural world while learning forestry skills, green woodworking, mindfulness theory and more.
Short course experiences include
Social Forestry - Learn the theory and practice of social forestry, looking at how sustainable woodland management and crafts can help promote human wellbeing.
Mindful Woodland Management - Learn some of the basic techniques of traditional woodland management and coppice craft whilst developing mindfulness skills in the peaceful surrounds of the CAT woodlands.
Connecting with Trees - A unique two-day course immersed in the CAT woodlands, learning about and connecting with the wonderful world of trees.
Sustainable Woodland Management - The theory and practice of managing woodlands in a way that benefits people and wildlife.
A Work that Reconnects Retreat - A week-long retreat combining meditation with volunteering

The Centre for Alternative technology is ideally situated right in the heart of Mid Wales, just two hours by train from Birmingham International Airport and Train Station.
CAT is located three miles north of Machynlleth on the A487, look out for the brown signs.
By Public Transport

Bus services run from Machynlleth and other major towns. The T2 runs regular routes from Aberystwyth to Bangor. The T2 also passes the centre as well. It's worth looking online if you're planning to travel by bus and ask the driver about the best place to alight for the centre.
National Cycle Network Route 8 passes via CAT's entrance and the road from Mach to CAT is quiet and safe (see map above).
Trains are frequent and it doesn't take long to get from the Midlands to Machynlleth
