Dyfnant Forest is home to the Dyfnant Rainbow Trails, designed with horses in mind but also welcoming walkers. There are 5 waymarked trails starting from the Penyffordd Car Park. The trails through rolling hills and lush green valleys range from the easiest which is the 5 mile Banwy Trot or, for the more experienced, two 16 milers for a full day's ride.

Melangell Horse Riding Trail (7 miles, 11 kilometres)
Follow in the footsteps of St. Melangell with a view of the craggy hill of Allt Dolanog.

Cae Penfras Horse Riding Trail (6 miles, 10 kilometres)
Take in some amazing views of the Vyrnwy valley.

Cwm Bach Horse Riding Trail (16 miles, 26 kilometres)
Trot along part of Glyndwr’s Way national trail with impressive views of the Conwy valley.

Banw Horse Riding Trail (5 miles, 8 kilometres)
Enjoy excellent views of the Banw valley on this trail suitable for novice riders.

Cerrig yr Helfa Horse Riding Trail (16 miles, 26 kilometres)
The trail leads past the Cerrig yr Helfa hunting stones and gives lovely views over the Arran and Berwyn mountains.

Penyffordd Car Park is purpose built with a one way system that allows drivers of horse boxes a roll in roll out system. There is ample parking for horse trailers and cars as well as a corral for horses.

Carriage driving trails in the Dyfnant Forest start from Hendre Car Park just before Pont Llogel.

Road Directions

There are three car parks managed by Natural Resources Wales in Dyfnant Forest from which to start your visit. All three have free parking:

Directions to Pont Llogel Car Park:Take the A458 from Welshpool to Dolgellau road and turn on to the B4395 at Llangadfan to Lake Vyrnwy. After about three miles you reach the hamlet of Pont Llogel. Just over the bridge on the right hand side you will find the Pont Llogel car park.

The OS grid reference is SJ 033 154

Directions to Penyffordd Car Park:Penyffordd car park is located on the B4395 between Llangadfan and Lake Vyrnwy. You can get onto this road off the A458 (Mallwyd to Welshpool) at Llangadfan or off the A490 (Llanfyllin to Welshpool) at Llanfyllin, taking the B4393 and then left onto the B4395 signposted to Llwydiarth and Pont Llogel.

Directions to Hendre Car Park:From the Penyffordd car park: turn left onto the B4395 (from A458 Llangadfan heading to Lake Vyrnwy). Follow this road for one and a half miles before turning left by Hendre cottages on the corner. The Hendre car park is 300 metres up this road on the right hand side.

From Llanfyllin: take the B4393 and then turn left on to the B4395 signposted to Llwydiarth and Pontllogel. Turn right by Hendre cottages. The Hendre car park is 300 metres up this road on the right hand side.
