Heart of Wales by Rail via Shrewsbury - Day 5

Friday - the final day of the tour. Our itinerary today is to spend the morning in Llandeilo and then catch the 15.34 train back to Shrewsbury - 18.28 arrival. If you need to return earlier, there is a five hour gap between trains so take the 10.32 service which will reach Shrewsbury at 13.33. Alternatively, there is a 13.15 train to Swansea (arrives 14.20) where a connection will get you to Cardiff or London Paddington.

Dinefwr Castle, a mediaeval castle of Welsh princes, remains of Roman forts, and Newton House, a mid-seventeenth century mansion all set in glorious parkland - plus a National Nature Reserve. Not too far to walk and too good to miss! The Castle, Park and Newtown House are normally open from 10 am.

Dinefwr has a tea room and you can have lunch in the Billiard Room restaurant at Newton House - or back into town.

Collect your luggage and head back to the railway station in time to catch the 15.34 Shrewsbury train. We call at Llandovery at 15.55, Llanwrtyd 16.20, Llandrindod 16.57, Knighton 17.36 and Craven Arms at 18.00; arrival at Shrewsbury will be at 18.28.

Llandeilo railway station is on the Heart of Wales Line that runs from Shrewsbury to Swansea.

Station Rd, Llandeilo, SA19 6ND

For Birmingham take the 18.33 train which will arrive at Telford 18.53, Wolverhampton 19.12, Birmingham New Street 19.31 and Birmingham International 19.50.

For Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly, the train leaves Shrewsbury at 18.57; arrives Crewe 19.33 and Manchester 20.19.

We hope you have really enjoyed our Heart of Wales Towns Tour and will be back soon for another Tour on the Cambrian Line!
