Explore the abandoned workings of an old Welsh slate mine with some of the best Mine Guides in Britain. You will make your way through the abandoned mine workings with the optional use of ropes, ladders and some scrambling around. More than 130 years of mining history is captured inside awaiting discovery. Machinery, tools & inspirational stories of life in the mine
Get kitted up before entering the dark abandoned and virtually untouched workings of the old Braich Goch mine. The mine first opened in 1836 and our trips take you along the hand-dug tunnels deep into the old mine workings. Discover old tools, machinery, drinks bottles, discarded cigarette packets and more whilst actual stories of life in the mine unfold.
Our Mine Guides have spent years delving around miles of underground caverns and tunnels in and around Braich Goch whilst conducting extensive research. They have met with and interviewed retired miners and their families and documented years of history.
As you explore, tales of working life in the mine will unfold in such a way that you can almost feel the mine creaking back to life. Choose from the Pathfinder trip (great for young families, min. age 8, and for anyone wishing to try out mine exploring), a 3 hour Adventurer trip (which takes you further into the old mine workings where you get to explore with ropes, ladders and some optional climbing) or the Half Day Mine Expedition where you get to explore deep inside the old mine workings to parts of the mine that are rarely visited.
Come, explore and step into the tough working lives of the miners of past generations. Corris Mine Explorers offers History, Adventure, Discovery and Fun all rolled into one fantastic trip.
There are no toilet facilities underground but toilets are available at the Corris Craft Centre before and after your trip. Disabled toilets are also available at the Corris Craft Centre but due to the nature of the Corris Mine Explorers trip, explorers need to be fit and able to walk 1/4 mile (Mini trip), 1/2 mile (Maxi trip) and 2 miles for the Exclusive Mine Expedition.
