Situated on the River Severn, Llandinam is a small village 2.5 miles south of Caersws and 5 miles north-east of Llanidloes. At the side of the main road through the village is a statue of David Davies, the 19th century industrialist and coal magnate whose family home was in Llandinam; he was responsible for much of the development of the South Wales Valleys and the export of coal from docks he promoted at Barry.

Davies built the narrow little cast iron bridge over the Severn by the statue with, on the other side, the former railway level crossing and station on the long closed Moat Lane Junction to Brecon line which he also built. The lane leads to Broneirion, an elegant country mansion built by Davies that is now the headquarters of Girlguiding Cymru.
