Take a leisurely stroll around the shore of Lake Vyrnwy – the perfect opportunity to walk for 11 miles over flat terrain. Explore its hidden inlets and enjoy magical views and great picnic spots – not to mention RSPB hides.

For the more adventurous or serious walker there’s miles and miles of footpaths to take you off into the hills and mountains and the opportunity to feel the splendid isolation of the spectacular countryside around the lake.

RHIWARGOR TRAIL (2 miles, 3.2 km) with some parts suitable for wheelchair/pushchair.
This trail is one of the most popular of all of the walks around Lake Vyrnwy, Starting, and finishing at the Rhiwargor Car Park, this trail is 2.3 miles and you'll experience mountain views and the Rhiwargor waterfall. The walk is on grass tracks with no steep climbs although will have to cross a stream with stepping stones to complete the walk.

LLECHWEDD DU WALK (5.5 miles, 9.1 km, if walked as a circular route).
The Llechwedd-du Walk is perfect if you struggle with some of the more challenging treks in the area. The walk starts from the track opposite the boathouse on the south side of the lake, and takes place over 5 miles through the forest. The track is well-maintained and takes you through clearings, conifers and birch trees.

The Llechwedd-du short trail is just 1.7 miles. It starts from the RSPB shop and leads along roads and tracks, while also allowing you lovely views of the lake, tower and dam.

TY UCHAF TRAIL (5 miles, 7.8 km, if walked as a circular route).
Starting from the northernmost part of Lake Vyrnwy, this trail is 4.3 miles long, and goes along forest tracks as well as roads, and has a very gentle incline. You’ll be able view the majestic, mature conifer trees on this walk, as well as enjoy a view of the lake.

The RSPB Visitor Centre at Lake Vyrnwy is open all year round. It has a well-stocked shop, three bird hides, and a cinema with daily showings of a film featuring the history of Lake Vyrnwy reserve. There are also cafes, toilets and a craft centre nearby. Parking and entry is free and dogs are allowed on leads.
