Details
Spring in South Wales is a wonderful time for stargazing, the weather is improving and the nights are still long. We can still see the dazzling winter constellations such as Orion, Taurus and Auriga and enjoy their wonderful open star clusters that look like diamonds on velvet through binoculars. If that were not enough the spring constellations of Cancer, Virgo and Leo are rising and as we start to move away from our own Milky Way we can wander through the realm of galaxies and look millions of year back in time.
In this virtual stargazing event we will show you how to easily find the showcase objects in the sky at this time of year. If you are viewing simply by eye or with binoculars or have a telescope we will show you what to look for and explain what you are looking at. There will be tips on how best to do stargazing on your own and how to find your way around the sky in the future.
The tour will be done using planetarium specially customised to give a realistic view of the sky above the Brecon Beacons National Park. Nick Busby from the Usk Astronomical Society will be our star guide. The event is suitable for families and everyone from absolute beginners to more experienced stargazers.
We hope that you will sit back on this St Davids day perhaps with a Welsh cake or Barra Brith and once we are able to welcome you back you will think about seeing our dark sky in person.
