Details
The village of Bow Street, together with the neighbouring smaller village of Pen-y-garn and the hamlet of Rhydypennau, form a narrow strip of development along the A487 Aberystwyth to Machynlleth road, some 4 mile north-east of Aberystwyth; the population is around 1900. The name would seem to be derived from the Bow Street in London and was originally applied to a small settlement formed in conjunction with the turn-piking of the Aberystwyth to Machynlleth road around 1770.
