Music Festival, Sun 28 Jul - Sat 3 Aug 2019

SY23 3DE

Our annual festival of concerts and conviviality; one of the friendliest festivals with a vibrant buzz from the tutors and students and audience with many returning year after year. It is a festival which supports excellence in both teaching and performance and offers a unique opportunity to engage with new works and the established repertoire.

The festival will be opened with a Gala Concert conducted by Dr David Russell Hulme and the Sinfonia Cambrensis with Tom Mathias (violin) in an innovative and beautiful programme. Among the many highlights are Schumann’s piano concerto with Tom Poster as the soloist; on Wednesday the Orion Orchestra will be playing Beethoven’s Symphony No.6; the Solem Quartet will perform Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro and David Campbell (clarinet). The Sacconi Quartet return with a performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet op.131 performed in the dark and from memory. The Sacconi also perform with Tom Poster the Haydn String Quartet, “The Lark” and the Korngold Piano Quintet.

New for this year are the Clare Jones Harp Ensemble, your chance to hear 24 harps, and also the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and the National Youth String Orchestra of Great Britain.

Full details of the programme are on the MusicFest website: Details of tickets are also on the website or are available through the Aberystwyth Arts Centre booking system.
