About

Wales Coast Path  | Eyri (Southern Snowdonia)
With the natural backdrop of the Eyri (Snowdonia) National Park it is easy to understand why this area is so loved. Expect great walks where you’ll discover small fishing villages, estuaries and miles of sandy beaches.

Don't Miss.........

Harlech Castle is a World Heritage site.  None of Edward I’s mighty coastal fortresses has a more spectacular setting than Harlech Castle which crowns a sheer rocky crag overlooking the dunes far below – waiting in vain for the tide to turn and the distant sea to lap at its feet once again.

No further drama is really required but, just in case, the rugged peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) rise as a backdrop.

Portmeirion is a unique Mediterranean inspired village, designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, famously used as a location for the 60s cult series, The Prisoner. Explore the white sandy beaches of the Dwyryd Estuary at Portmeirion Village to discover hidden caves, gullies and a flurry of interesting plants.

The Mawddach Estuary is a beautiful estuary with magnificent views south towards Cadair Idris. The Barmouth to Fairbourne section of the Coast Path provides spectacular views of the Mawddach Estuary and Cader Idris to the south.

SOUTHERN SNOWDONIA COAST - Suggested Walks:
Please note that distances are one way unless otherwise specified. Where public transport is shown, this means that the start and finish points are linked (timetable dependent). The use of www.travelinecymru.wales to plan your journey is recommended.

Aberdovey to Machynlleth (19km / 11 miles)
Here the coast path takes an inland detour through forests and past Llyn Barfog and Carn March Arthur. The spectacular mountain scenery makes an interesting contrast to the coast. Machynlleth has  a quirky, eco-friendly vibe nestled within the beautiful UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere.

Barmouth to Fairbourne (6km / 3.75 miles)
Barmouth, or Abermaw as it is known in Welsh, is southern Snowdonia's most popular seaside resort with breathtaking views of Cardigan Bay and the picturesque harbour. With spectacular views up the Mawddach Estuary with Cadair Idris looming in the distance, this is an unchallenging walk over the estuary. It is possible to catch the train back for an even more leisurely outing.

Harlech – Talybont (17km / 12 miles)
These two stunning beaches offer miles of walking opportunities, with plenty of opportunities for refreshment along the way! You can shorten this walk in several places by catching the Cambrian Coast Railway, which has stations at frequent intervals.

A coastal walk should always be a safe and enjoyable experience and you should leave the environment as you found it.
• Stay on the Path and away from cliff edges.
• Wear boots and warm, waterproof clothing.
• Take extra care in windy and/or wet conditions.
• Always supervise children.
