About

Created from a gravel pit, quarried to provide material for the creation of the Welshpool bypass, Llyn Coed y Dinas is a fantastic home for all sorts of wildlife. Some of these call the reserve home all year round, while others visit at specific times of the year, either to breed and raise their young or to shelter from the winter weather. Some prefer to use the site as a “wildlife service station”, dropping in for a rest and a meal before heading off elsewhere.

You never know what you might see on a visit to Llyn Coed y Dinas, so it is worth popping in whenever you can. Spring and autumn migration are particularly exciting, with a good chance of something unusual making an appearance. Some of the more unusual birds spotted at the reserve in the last year include Bittern, Mandarin Duck, Gadwall, Mediterranean Gull, Common Tern, Arctic Tern and Pintail.

The site is fully accessible to wheelchair users, including the spacious bird hide. Well-behaved dog owners are welcome - remember your dog doesn't know that it is a nature reserve, so please help us retain this privilege by keeping him on a lead and clearing up any mess.
