In a stunning hillside location right on the Shropshire/Welsh border, this silver-stone Georgian Rectory is now a stylish country house hotel. Set in five acres of grounds, with no passing traffic, Pen-y-Dyffryn combines unobtrusive hospitality with high standards of service, guaranteeing that ""away-from-it-all"" feeling.

Pen-y-Dyffryn is a member of Welsh Rarebits, and was chosen as ""Country Hotel of the Year"" by The Good Hotel Guide. We have also been nominated as Johansen's ""Best Value Hotel"", and the restaurant has two AA rosettes.

Some bedrooms have en-suite spa baths, others have private patios. The star of the piece, however, is the hotel's hillside setting facing the Welsh mountains to the west. ""Sundowners"" are a must! And toast your toes by the log fires in the cooler months.

The National Trust properties of Powis Castle, Chirk Castle, Attingham and Erddig are all nearby, as is Wales' highest waterfall and beautiful Lake Vyrnwy. The medieval towns of Shrewsbury and Chester are both within half an hour. Excellent hill walking. Pets welcome.

Cleanlines- When having to find a power point to charge my phone I went behind the bedside tables,it was dusty behind them.

Staff service- over all really helpful and attentive, as I was travelling on my own for breakfast one morning I waited a long time to be served in the end I asked for service. Once I had ordered the waitress asked if I would like to order for my partner I explained I was on my own and she seemed shocked by this and did not quite know what to do with herself!

    location was beautiful

Service and facilities- I had asked to book a massage on my original booking. A member of staff got back and said they would enquire. After 2 days of waiting I had to phone up and ask, it had been booked but no one had replied to me. When I had my massage , no robe had been supplied in my room, apparently this was common practice in the hotel according to the treatment lady, she had to go out and get one for me. It said in the guest book in my room my water in my room would be freshly replenished each day this did not happen.

I stayed for dinner one evening.I was dining on my own that night and enjoying people watching. When my main course came I had been served some vegetables- no one explained to me what vegetables were in my side dish, though everyone else who had vegetables had it explained to them.- just a little note as I would have liked to have been informed.

Overall really enjoyed my stay and the helpfulness of staff. Dinner was lovely.
