Find out about volunteering on the world's first preserved railway. Have a go and experience driving a steam or diesel locomotive, visit the workshops and many more activities.
In 1951 the Talylyn Railway was saved from closure by a groups of volunteers who formed the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society [more]. To this day volunteers drive the trains, sell the tickets, maintain the track and do most of the jobs required to run the railway.

Steam Driving Experience - Drive a train from Tywyn Wharf - Brynglas, several available - take as many as you wish. 1 trip £70, 2 trips £130, 3 trips £190, 4 trips £250
Diesel Driver for a Fiver - 'Turn up and go' short driving trips - no need to book
Locomotive Footplate Trips - Ride the footplate with the driver and fireman between Tywyn Wharf and Pendre.
Shed and Workshop Tours - Take a short trip to Pendre station and see behind the scenes in the locomotive shed and workshop.
Volunteering Display - Tywyn Wharf station will be filled with information on volunteering - read the stories of the people who run the railway, find out why they work for free on there days off?
Museum - The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at Tywyn Wharf is also ran by volunteers from sister organisation the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Trust. Pay them a visit to see the artifacts from locomotive to tickets - free addmision.
Eat, Drink & Shop - King's Licensed Cafe at Tywyn Wharf Station will be open as normal with their popular breakfasts, home cooked lunches, all day menu, and licensed bar. The gift shop at Tywyn wharf is also open with their expansive range of gifts and toys.
