Ceredigion Uplands: Devils Bridge to Tregaron

Explore Devil’s Bridge to Tregaron

Between the Cambrian Mountains and the Coast of Cardigan Bay lie the peaceful and remote Uplands of Ceredigion. Discover Devil’s Bridge, Pontrhydygroes, Tregaron, Pontrhydfendigaid; best known as home to the Cistercian abbey of Strata Florida. Nearby is the nature reserve of Cors Caron, a relic of the Ice Age. Think: wild summits, rolling foothills, deep valleys, and historic villages. Yet you are never further than half an hour from the beach.

The Ystwyth and Rheidol rivers have carved their way through the landscape on their way to the sea, and Pumlumon Mountain, the highest peak in the Cambrian Mountain range, is located to the north.

You can explore on foot - there are routes for all abilities. Devil’s Bridge and Tregaron are both“Walkers are Welcome” designated towns. Walk from Devil’s Bridge down into the gorge and visit Tregaron, home of the National Eisteddfod 2020. Climb Pumlumon; from the summit you will see the peaks of Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons as well as the sweep of Cardigan Bay.

There are opportunities to hop on your bike, too; for Road Biking, Mountain Biking, and family friendly traffic free trails. From a leisurely meander to adrenaline fuelled rides – this area has got it covered.

Bring your own fishing rod or hire one locally, then choose from lakes, reservoirs or rivers; the Cambrian Mountains has some of the best brown trout fishing in the country.
