Three rivers, three valleys with market towns, amazing scenery, a variety of wildlife and architecture. This area was known as ‘Paradwys Cymru' - the paradise of Wales. The Severn flows through a wide valley from the Cambrian Mountains. In the west, the Dyfi flows from the mountains to the sea in a spectacular estuary. Lake Vyrnwy is a reservoir surrounded by wooded hills and in the lake, a striking gothic tower.
In the east, shop in the market towns of Llanidloes, Newtown and Welshpool. Visit the world famous garden at Powis Castle and nearby Glansevern Gardens. Llanidloes with its timber framed market hall and Minerva Arts Centre is near to The Hafren Forest and Llyn Clywedog. Newtown has museums, galleries and a full programme of events at Theatr Hafren.
In the west, Machynlleth is known as the ancient capital of Wales. The clock is the symbol of this fascinating market town with its shops, galleries and thriving Tabernacle Arts Centre. The Centre for Alternative Technology attracts visitors from all over the world and is a focal point for people interested in sustainable tourism.
