Machynlleth is a vibrant mix of cultures, with a great range of independant shops where you will find local food and crafts, colourful clothes and fabrics, green products - and plenty of cafes to stop for a panad (cuppa).
In 1404, Owain Glyndwr held the first Welsh Parliament in Machynlleth - 600 years before the Welsh Assembly. Today the town is dominated by the clock tower erected in the late 19th century to mark the coming of age of Lord Castlereagh, the eldest son of the Marques of Londonderry (who lived at Y Plas, Machynlleth).
The surrounding Dyfi Valley area has been made a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, one of only 2 areas in the UK and the only one in Wales. We work hard to protect the area's wildlife, history and culture
