Wonderful views, complete seclusion in own 3 acres on farmland.

About

A Straw Bale Cottage Holiday, an unusual place to stay in Llandrindod Wells, Mid Wales. The ultimate get away.

The Straw Cottage is truly far from the madding crowd, sitting on the edge of Ben’s Wood, the ground gently slopes down to a pretty little stream running through the meadow. The cottage sits in about 3 acres of its own enclosed woodland and stream-side meadow within a 130 acre farm, so guests have complete privacy. There are far reaching views all around. There is a fire-pit and inside the cottage a cosy wood burner. Great walking with panoramic views around the farm and further afield without the need to drive anywhere.

Wake up to the sound of birdsong, go to sleep to the sound of Holly Brook, breakfast outside with just the meadow flowers and the hills for company. This is the romance of a bygone era with modern comfort. Children have the freedom to explore safely, build dens, stream dip, follow a treasure hunt and toast marshmallows by the bonfire.

The cottage has two double bedrooms, one has twin beds and the other a double bed. There is a hot and cold shower and a flushing WC in the bathroom.

A large sitting room with wood burner leads out onto the veranda. There is a kitchen area with sink with hot and cold water, gas oven and gas fridge. Heating comes from the wood burner, hot water and cooking is by gas.

Lighting is by lanterns and candles. A battery torches is also supplied. Comfortably and attractively furnished.

There is a barbeque on the veranda and a slightly further away is a place to have a bonfire. A hammock swings between the trees. The cottage is built using centuries old building methods, the walls are made of straw bales coated with lime mortar, the roof insulation is sheep’s wool and the roof has cedar shingles

There is no electricity or modern appliances at The Straw Cottage. Weekly lets from Friday to Friday and from Monday to Monday. Short breaks of 3 nights start on a Friday. Short breaks of 4 nights start on a Monday.

GREAT FOR KIDS:
The Straw Cottage is surrounded by 3 acres of its own land within 130 acre farm. Children have the freedom to explore safely and use their imagination and creativity to build dens, stream dip, follow a treasure hunt, toast marshmallows by the bonfire, star gaze and create wild art. Inside there is an old  trunk full of children's board games, colouring books, fairy stories, a kite and even water pistols! Fireguard for wood burner, booster high chair and travel cot provided.

GREAT FOR COUPLES:
The Straw Cottage is the ultimate romantic hideaway, a perfect combination of adventure and comfort. Built of straw in an idyllic, completely secluded position in open woodland with a stream and far reaching views. Snuggle up on big squashy sofas by the wood burner with candles and lanterns. Or have supper on the old wooden table made years ago by a local farmer for his new bride, lit by a candelabra. Warm and cosy with comfortable beds, no electricity but a hot shower, flushing WC and gas oven.

GREAT FOR WILDLIFE
Ty Gwyn Farm is in a conservation scheme where hedges are allowed to grow higher and wider, old pastures are preserved and areas are left wild, thereby encouraging a wide range of flora and fauna. Red Kites are seen regularly on the farm as are green woodpeckers, tawny and barn owls, redstarts, chaffinches, bullfinches, blue tits and many other species. There are ten bird boxes in the wood around the straw cottage. Hares are seen regularly on the farm. Inside the cottage there are books to help identify birds, plants and trees. Visitors are encouraged to list the birds they see in the bird book.
