Fly Fishing at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & SpaFly Fishing at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa

Lake Vyrnwy  Lake Vyrnwy

Fly fishing at Lake Vyrnwy started in 1818 after the lake was flooded and stocked with 40,000 loch leven brown trout. This reservoir is the world’s second oldest manmade trout fishery.

The collection of stuffed trout, with all the fishing registers since the lake opened, makes for one of the most important collections of piscatorial ephemera in private hands.

Today fishing is for wild brown and stocked brown and rainbow trout, ensuring good sport throughout the season.

There are 10 boats on the water at two stations, quietly powered by electric engines. Just ten boats in 1100 acres. This is the tranquil loch-style fishing of yesteryear.

Available on both season and day-ticket, there is accommodation at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel which also offers tuition together with a range of tackle and flies.

Health and safety note: life preservers must now be worn whilst on the water.
