The King's Guard Trail (three quarters of a mile, 1.1 kilometres)
This is a great family riverside walk on almost flat ground and the walk to the King (the tallest tree on the route) is suitable for wheelchairs. It starts from the Ty'n y Groes car park
Highlights: See the magnificent Douglas firs, the biggest trees in Coed y Brenin on this walk suitable for all abilities.
Follow the blue waymarkers from the car park across the grassy picnic site (see the King’s Guards interpretation panel). The trail then takes you close to the river Mawddach, and leads you through the towering cathedral-like columns of the biggest trees in Coed y Brenin to the King, the biggest tree of all! A short loop path adjacent to the river then leads back to the start.
The route to the Champion leads on ahead by following the yellow arrows. From the Champion the trail leads to the tarmac road (cars use this) which takes you back down a steep descent to the car park.
