/// AFRO /// JAZZ /// SOUL /// FUNK ///
With members hailing from Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Malaysia, Spain and the UK, Lakuta is a truly global mix of musicians who draw on a deep love of jazz, funk, soul and world music to create a fierce, driving sound.
Tanzanian/ Kenyan vocalist, Siggi Mwasote, has generated a unique lyrical style, giving a fresh funk-soul twist to the traditional African aesthetic. Latin percussionist, Cicely Taylor, heads up the ensemble and brings a contemporary feel with writing influenced by her travels in West Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The word ‘lakuta’ is derived from Siggi’s mother tongue of Swahili and translates as ‘to find, meet, share or feel full’. Don’t miss this fantastic night out and dancing to a wide range of genres, blending of traditional instruments and hard-hitting sound.
